Meghalaya Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong rejects sole flood blame and unveils digital grievance portal

Meghalaya Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong said the state should not be held solely responsible for the recurring floods in Assam, noting that both Meghalaya and Assam share responsibility for flood mitigation. He responded to Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s allegations that developmental activities on Meghalaya’s hill slopes contribute to water‑logging in Guwahati, stressing the need for adequate drainage and culverts in projects such as the proposed six‑lane ring road.

Tynsong also inaugurated the East Khasi Hills district’s first digital grievance redressal portal, describing it as the beginning of a larger transformation in governance. The platform allows citizens to lodge complaints at the village, community and individual levels, with an online tracking system for transparency and timely resolution. Deputy Commissioner Abhilash Baranwal highlighted the portal’s role in improving service delivery and accountability across the district.
