Meghalaya hosts cultural events amid venue concerns for Shillong Literary Festival

Cultural activities are underway in Meghalaya, highlighted by a State-Level Inter-School singing competition held at the State Central Library in Shillong as part of the Reform Utsav – Jan Jatiya Gaurav Divas 2026. The event, attended by Minister Sanbor Shullai and Principal Secretary Frederick Roy Kharkongor, aimed to preserve and promote the state's traditional music and heritage among students.

Separately, the Hynniewtrep National Youth Front (HNYF) has raised concerns regarding the proposed venue for the Shillong Literary Festival. The group has requested the state government to move the event from Ward’s Lake to locations such as the State Central Library, the State Convention Centre, or Garrison Ground to prevent environmental degradation and overcrowding at the lake. The festival, supported by the Meghalaya Tourism Department, is scheduled to take place from November 12 to November 14.
