Meghalaya Legislative Assembly Schedules Autumn Session Amid Building Delay

The Meghalaya Legislative Assembly will convene for a five‑day Autumn Session from August 24 to August 28. The schedule includes three days of Government Business and two days of Private Members’ Business, with bills, motions, and the Supplementary Demands for Grants for 2026‑27 to be considered. Speaker Thomas A. Sangma said the calendar was unanimously approved by the Business Advisory Committee and assured members that adequate time would be provided for both government and opposition to raise issues.

Separately, Speaker Sangma attributed delays in moving to the new Assembly complex to supply‑chain disruptions caused by the conflict in West Asia. Imported materials needed for audio‑visual systems and specialised cabling have been slowed, though about 90 % of the required items have arrived. The building, already structurally complete, must also pass a safety audit by IIT Guwahati and IIT Roorkee before occupation. Sangma emphasized that safety and quality cannot be compromised and that the installation work will proceed alongside the audit.
