Meghalaya Police President’s Colour ceremony cancelled

The President’s Colour Presentation Ceremony for the Meghalaya Police, originally scheduled for October 5 at J. N. Stadium in Shillong, has been cancelled. The postponement follows the cancellation of a proposed visit to the state by Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

While official notifications regarding the Home Minister’s cancelled tour did not specify a reason, reports indicate the cancellation coincides with intensifying protests in New Delhi. Demonstrators have been targeting Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. The Meghalaya Police stated the ceremony was called off due to “unavoidable circumstances” and noted that a new date for the presentation of the prestigious honour will be announced at a later time.
