Meghalaya releases ₹28.60 crore to 1.14 lakh households in Tura
The Meghalaya Basin Management Agency (MBMA) has released ₹28.60 crore under the FOCUS+ program to 114,400 beneficiaries in Tura. This distribution includes 9,070 newly added households aimed at strengthening rural livelihoods through direct income support.
The initiative integrates income support with environmental conservation through the ₹344.4-crore MegARISE project. MegARISE focuses on protecting water, soil, and forest resources, specifically securing 39,714 hectares of the Ganol catchment to ensure water security for the region.
Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma stated that the program represents a significant step in involving traditional institutions to protect catchment areas. The state aims to expand the FOCUS+ program to reach between 250,000 and 300,000 households through quarterly beneficiary registrations.
