Meguro Nihon University High School wins national dance championship
Meguro Nihon University High School won the 14th annual Dance Club Championship (DCC), a national high school dance competition held on August 26 at the Tokyo Garden Theater. Out of 269 competing teams nationwide, Meguro Nihon University High School secured first place with a 12-member squad, defying the trend of larger teams typically dominating the competition.
The winning performance, titled ‘Kakkaku’ (meaning ‘brilliant’ or ‘resplendent’), utilized a style-based hip-hop foundation mixed with various genres. The team focused on intense expressions and physical presence to compensate for their smaller numbers. The captain expressed immense pride in achieving the goal of winning with a small team to ‘change history’ after placing third in the previous year.
Actress Rikka Ihara, a former DCC champion herself, attended as a special ambassador for the second consecutive year. She praised the winning team for their unique color, skill, and aura. The event also featured a guest performance by DJ KOO.
