Mehbooba Mufti meets Mirwaiz Umar Farooq in Srinagar

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president and former chief minister Mehbooba Mufti met with Kashmir’s chief cleric, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, at his residence in Srinagar. The meeting focused on pressing social issues affecting the youth in the Kashmir valley.

Discussions reportedly addressed rising concerns regarding drug abuse, suicide, and self-harm among young people. This follows recent resolutions by religious scholars, led by the Mirwaiz, calling for a sustained social response and the involvement of religious institutions to encourage families to seek professional help.

The interaction also follows a recent public convergence between Mufti and the Mirwaiz regarding the proposed ‘Tantra in Silence’ retreat in the Gurez valley.
