Mehdi Benatia joins Canal+ as consultant amid criticism

Mehdi Benatia, the former sporting director of Olympique de Marseille, has joined Canal+ as a television consultant. He is expected to appear during European competition broadcasts, specifically within the ‘Canal Champions Clubs’ segments.

His appointment has drawn sharp criticism from former Canal+ journalist Pierre Ménès. Speaking on his YouTube channel, Ménès questioned Benatia’s legitimacy for the role, suggesting that his management at Olympique de Marseille was detrimental to the club. Ménès remarked, “Is he feeling legitimate, after having wrecked OM in every way, to find himself on a TV set?” He further suggested that Benatia appears to deny responsibility for the issues faced by the Marseille club.
