Mehmet Aktunç outlines urban development plan for Lefkoşa

Mehmet Aktunç, the National Unity Party (UBP) candidate for the Lefkoşa Turkish Municipality (LTB) presidency, has outlined a strategic plan to address the city's long-term challenges. During a television appearance, Aktunç stated that the city has lost much of its identity and character over time and requires permanent, planned solutions rather than temporary fixes.

Aktunç's proposed timeline includes a comprehensive assessment of the city's issues within the first 30 days of office. Within the first 100 days, he intends to present a formal solution calendar to the public. His platform includes short, medium, and long-term projects targeting various areas, including traffic management, parking, and the revitalization of the Walled City (Surlariçi).

To address traffic congestion, Aktunç aims to promote more active use of public transportation and establish strategic parking areas to reduce the urban load. He also emphasized the importance of creating recreational spaces in areas such as Göçmenköy, Hamitköy, and Haspolat, with the goal of making Lefkoşa a model municipality for other districts.
