Mehmet Demir, a 21-year-old from Kızıltepe, Mardin, has gained social media attention following his marriage proposal to his 80-year-old partner. The couple, who share a 59-year age difference, held a romantic engagement ceremony by the sea in Italy, with Demir wearing a suit and his partner in a wedding dress.

Demir, who has become an Italian citizen and adopted the name ‘Giuseppe Dana’, stated that he fell in love with his partner upon their first meeting in Mardin. He addressed public scrutiny regarding the age gap, asserting, “I am not after her money.” The couple intends to return to Kızıltepe to hold a wedding ceremony in accordance with local traditions.
