Mehmet Eymür: Key figure in Turkish intelligence history

Mehmet Eymür was a prominent figure in Turkey’s intelligence history, having a career within the National Intelligence Organization (MİT) that spanned several decades. Born in 1943, Eymür entered the intelligence service in 1965 and worked closely with Hiram Abas.

His career involved numerous high-profile operations, including the management of operations against the THKP-C in the early 1970s and organizing activities against the Armenian militant group ASALA in the 1980s. He was also involved in the ‘Babalar Operasyonu’ (Fathers Operation) in 1984, which targeted major mafia leaders.

Eymür is also known for his role in preparing the ‘1st MİT Report,’ which triggered significant political debates regarding relationships between state officials and organized crime. His career has been marked by both counter-terrorism successes and controversies involving allegations of torture and state-mafia links.
