Diyarbakır murder trial: Defendant remains in custody for killing pregnant Helin Eren
The second hearing of the trial regarding the murder of 19-year-old Helin Eren, who was three months pregnant at the time, has taken place in Diyarbakır. The defendant, Siyabent Şeker, is accused of killing Eren on July 24, 2025, in the Sur district.
According to the indictment, Şeker lured Eren to a meeting by promising to buy her food and flowers. Upon meeting her in the Çiftkapı area, he allegedly fired five shots at close range, targeting vital areas. The victim's family lawyer, Onur Değer, has requested that the court evaluate the crime as premeditated murder involving the infliction of intense suffering.
During the proceedings, Şeker claimed he believed he was being ambushed and fired his unlicensed weapon without aiming. The court has decided to maintain Şeker's arrest and has adjourned the trial until January 19, 2027. The prosecution is seeking an aggravated life sentence for the charge of intentional murder against a woman.
