Mehmet Harmancı addresses Nicosia transport and municipal issues

Mehmet Harmancı, President of the Nicosia Turkish Municipality (LTB) and candidate for the Social Democracy Party (TDP), visited the Çukurovalılar Solidarity Association to discuss municipal projects and regional issues. During the meeting, which included members of the CTP and TDP, Harmancı addressed local challenges such as infrastructure, traffic, and public transportation.

Regarding public transport, Harmancı attributed current difficulties to the past sale of 14 transportation permits by Lettaş, which has made it legally difficult to obtain new permits. To address this, the municipality introduced night services last year and implemented a rule requiring existing permit holders to operate on their routes every thirty minutes to ensure service consistency.

Harmancı also highlighted the municipality's financial recovery, noting that fiscal discipline established between 2014 and 2018 allowed the LTB to maintain investment capabilities despite subsequent economic crises. He noted that the municipal workforce has been streamlined from 901 to approximately 630 employees.
