Mehmet Kemal Yazıcıoğlu elected Mayor of Tokat
Mehmet Kemal Yazıcıoğlu has been elected as the Mayor of Tokat, marking a historic political milestone for the region. Running under the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) in the March 31, 2024, local elections, Yazıcıoğlu secured the position with 54.86% of the vote, becoming the first MHP mayor in the history of Tokat.
In a symbolic connection to his family legacy, Yazıcıoğlu is the son of the late Recep Yazıcıoğlu, a prominent figure known as the ‘Super Governor’ who served as the Governor of Tokat between 1984 and 1989. In a rare occurrence, the Tokat Governorship gifted Yazıcıoğlu his father’s former official desk, which he now uses in his capacity as mayor.
Yazıcıoğlu, who holds a master’s degree in Political Science and Public Administration, has emphasized the strategic importance of Tokat, noting its diverse product range and natural resources as key assets for the region's future.
