Turkish Parliament shifts as İYİ Party deputies join AK Party
A series of high-profile resignations and political transfers has significantly altered the seat distribution in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey.
İYİ Party has seen a notable decline in its parliamentary presence, with its deputy count dropping to 27 following the resignations of Aydın Deputy Ömer Karakaş and Gaziantep Deputy Mehmet Mustafa Gürban. Both Karakaş and Gürban joined the AK Party during its 25th anniversary celebrations, where they were officially presented with party badges by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
Meanwhile, the Yeni Yol Party faced a critical threat to its parliamentary group status after İzmir Deputy Mustafa Bilici resigned to join the AK Party, briefly reducing the party's count to 19. However, the group regained its status after Ali Fazıl Kasap resigned from the CHP to join Yeni Yol, bringing their total back to the required 20 deputies.
İYİ Party Chairman Müsavat Dervişoğlu responded to the departures by asserting that the party remains on the right path despite what he described as attacks from multiple sides.
