Construction Firm Owner Ercan Ekşi Killed in Pendik Shooting

On 31 July 2026, 46‑year‑old construction firm owner Ercan Ekşi was shot at a construction site in Pendik, Istanbul. He suffered severe injuries to the abdomen and groin and died in hospital despite medical treatment.

Police examined roughly 480 hours of security‑camera footage, which led them to identify the shooter as 23‑year‑old Muhammet G. He was arrested in Taksim the following day. Two additional suspects, Mehmet G. (27) and Özcan O. (48), were also detained. All three were taken to court.

The attacker told investigators he had been hired for money and did not intend to kill. The firearm used in the attack was recovered about 300 metres from the scene.
