Mehmet Turhan calls for school prayer rooms in Manisa

Mehmet Turhan, president of the Manisa ÖNDER Imam Hatiplier Derneği, expressed support for Istanbul Governor Davut Gül’s initiative to establish mescit (prayer rooms) in schools. Turhan said the arrangement meets students’ and education staff’s worship needs and aligns with fundamental rights, citing safety and appropriate environments. He urged Manisa’s provincial and educational authorities to adopt the same practice in existing schools and to include adequate prayer‑room capacity in the designs of new school projects.

Turhan emphasized that providing dedicated spaces for worship would complement academic achievement and support the moral development of youth. He praised the Istanbul model as “precise and commendable,” urging rapid implementation in Manisa.
