Mehmet Uçum discusses legal paths for Erdoğan’s candidacy
Presidential Chief Advisor Mehmet Uçum has stated that President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s candidacy for a final term in the upcoming elections has become a political reality. Uçum suggested that the focus should now shift toward completing the legal process to formalize this status.
To facilitate a third term, Uçum proposes a specific legal interpretation of Article 116 of the Constitution. He suggests that if the Parliament decides to call for elections before the current presidential term expires, it could open a legal pathway for Erdoğan to run again.
Uçum argued that maintaining a stable administration is essential for sustaining Turkey’s progress in defense industry advancements, energy investments, and its position as a regional power. He also framed the candidacy as a way to ensure the continuity of the ‘Terror-free Turkey’ process.
