Mei Yangyang skirt shots spark controversy, creators deny intent

The new Chinese animated series Pleasant Goat and Grey Wolf: Breaking the Boundary Sea Spell features the character Mei Yangyang in a short dress. Several scenes show her covering the skirt and camera angles looking up at the skirt’s underside, prompting viewers to accuse the show of sexualizing the character.

The series’ official Weibo account responded that the actions and camera work were not designed to create an improper impression and that the creators will handle character movements and shot composition more carefully in future productions. The episode’s release has also drawn attention from the National Radio and Television Administration’s recent crackdown on low‑brow content.
