Meißen Transport Authority Launches Free Electric Ferry Pilot in 2026
The Verkehrsgesellschaft Meißen (VGM) will operate a free pilot phase for three fully electric ferries on the Elbe River from 15 August to 15 October 2026. The trial, part of the federally funded MEI‑eFAIR project, aims to boost the visibility of electric water transport, encourage cyclists to use the river as a route, and integrate the ferries into regular public‑transport services across several Elbe crossings.
Starting 14 June 2026, VGM also announced timetable adjustments on five bus lines within the Verkehrsverbund Oberelbe (VVO) area. Changes include additional weekday services on line 750 for Nossen, earlier school‑bus departures, and minor timing shifts on lines 405, 418, 423, 445 and others to improve connections and reduce waiting times for commuters and students.
