Meiji University launches multicultural coexistence contest for high schoolers

Meiji University’s School of Global Japanese Studies is recruiting high school students for its “Multicultural Coexistence Presentation Contest.” The final event is scheduled for November 28, 2026, at the Surugadai Campus in Tokyo, with a Zoom streaming option available.

The contest encourages the next generation to identify local challenges regarding multicultural coexistence and propose practical solutions. Topics may include language and communication issues in schools, educational and career paths for students with foreign backgrounds, community activities, and disaster prevention. The university defines multicultural coexistence not merely as coexistence, but as creating a better society through dialogue and mutual understanding.

Participants can apply as individuals or in teams of two to three members. Following a preliminary round involving a presentation summary and slides, six teams will be selected for the finals. Winners will receive various awards, and the grand prize winner will present again at the “Youth Co-creation Forum” on November 29. Co-hosted by the Multicultural Coexistence City Conference, the program offers travel subsidies for participants traveling from outside the Tokyo metropolitan area.
