Mekong Delta farmers boost income through soursop processing
Farmers in Vietnam's Mekong Delta provinces, including Dong Thap, Vinh Long, Can Tho, and An Giang, are increasing their income by diversifying soursop products through deep processing.
While fresh soursop remains a staple, the application of processing technologies to create products such as dried soursop, jams, and teas has significantly enhanced commercial value. Dried soursop, in particular, has become a popular snack. This shift helps extend preservation times and reduces the pressure of consuming fresh fruit during peak harvest seasons.
Fresh soursop currently trades between 40,000 and 70,000 VND per kg, whereas processed dried soursop can command prices ranging from 250,000 to 350,000 VND per kg. To ensure high yields, farmers typically perform manual pollination between June and July, as the trees require well-drained soil and careful fruit bagging to prevent pest damage.
