Mel Brooks requested early filming for Spaceballs sequel due to age
Comedy legend Mel Brooks requested that his scenes for the upcoming sequel, ‘Spaceballs: The New One’, be filmed first to ensure his participation in the production. At 100 years old, Brooks reportedly told the crew, ‘You better film me now because I’m 100.’
Actress Daphne Zuniga shared these details during a panel at 90s Con, noting that while Brooks worked closely with writers on the project, he prioritized his scenes to account for his age. The sequel, which is being released by Amazon MGM Studios in 2027, features several returning cast members, including Zuniga as Vespa and Rick Moranis as Dark Helmet.
The production also includes Bill Pullman as Lone Starr, with Lewis Pullman playing their child, Prince Starburst. The film is directed by Josh Greenbaum from a script by Benji Samit, Dan Hernandez, and Josh Gad.
