Mel Gibson's 'Resurrection of the Christ' sequel proceeds after Satan warning
Screenwriter Randall Wallace disclosed that Mel Gibson warned him the project could attract spiritual attacks, saying, “Satan will come after you.” The warning was made during an appearance on the Arroyo Grande podcast.
The planned sequel, titled The Resurrection of the Christ, will be released in two parts. Production wrapped after a seven‑month shoot in Rome, and the films are slated for theatrical release on 6 May 2027 and 25 May 2028. Jaakko Ohtonen has been cast as Jesus, replacing Jim Caviezel from the original film.
Gibson described the sequel as a personal mission and a crucial story for humanity, emphasizing that it should not be driven by profit or retaliation. The original 2004 film remains one of the highest‑grossing R‑rated movies, and the sequel is expected to generate significant interest among religious and general audiences alike.
