Mel Gibson details nonlinear approach for “Resurrection of the Christ”

Director Mel Gibson has shared details regarding “The Resurrection of the Christ,” the sequel to his 2004 film “The Passion of the Christ.” Speaking at Fan Expo Boston, Gibson noted that the new film will utilize English dialogue and a nonlinear storytelling structure to better convey the significance of the events.

Filming for the project took place in Italy, including locations such as Rome, Matera, and Brindisi, and wrapped ahead of schedule. Gibson stated that the screenplay was a decade-long collaboration with Randall Wallace and Donal Gibson, aimed at creating a believable portrayal of the resurrection by juxtaposing the event against historical accounts.

In a related reflection on the original production, actor Jim Caviezel recounted his experience filming “The Passion of the Christ” in 2003, when he was struck by lightning. The incident resulted in long-term health complications, including two heart surgeries, one of which Caviezel described as a near-death experience during the recovery process.
