Mel Gibson develops ‘The Resurrection of the Christ’ sequel

Director Mel Gibson is working on ‘The Resurrection of the Christ’, a sequel to his 2004 film ‘The Passion of the Christ’. Gibson stated that the project aims to ‘enhance’ church teachings by exploring elements of Jesus Christ’s life and work that are not explicitly detailed in the synoptic Gospels.

The film is expected to feature narrative elements that extend beyond Earth, including depictions of the firmament and various spiritual realms. Gibson has described the production as a major part of his ‘life’s work’.

Italian actor Eduardo Scarpetta has joined the cast to portray Saint Paul. Scarpetta noted that he is working closely with Gibson to develop the character, describing the director as having clear ideas while allowing actors freedom to elaborate on their roles. The cast also includes Jaakko Ohtonen, Riccardo Scamarcio, Kasia Smutniak, and Mariela Garriga.
