Mel Robbins discusses managing relationships with parents

Personal development specialist Mel Robbins recently shared insights on her podcast regarding the complexities of adult relationships with parents. She addressed the tension that arises when individuals attempt to change or correct their parents' fundamental personalities.

Robbins noted that as people age, they often become more rigid. She observed that many parents may not seek therapy or have the desire to change long-standing behaviors. Consequently, she suggests that improving these dynamics requires internal transformation rather than expecting external changes from the parent.

To foster acceptance, Robbins recommends adopting a compassionate perspective by acknowledging that parents provided what they could based on their own life experiences. She argues that relational dynamics can shift when an individual changes their own way of interacting, operating under the premise that the other person will not change.
