Melaka Butterfly and Reptile Park records green anaconda births
A green anaconda named Diana has given birth to 10 offspring at the Melaka Butterfly and Reptile Park in Ayer Keroh, marking a significant milestone for wildlife conservation in Malaysia. The birth, which occurred on October 5, represents the successful breeding of a second generation (F2) entirely within captivity.
Managing Director Gerard Wong noted that Diana, who is 2.74 meters long, underwent a gestation period of approximately 190 days and did not eat for nearly seven months prior to giving birth. This achievement reinforces the park's status as the holder of the largest green anaconda population in Malaysia, with the total number of green and yellow anacondas now exceeding 40.
The park is also seeking recognition from the Malaysia Book of Records for this event. In addition to this breeding success, the facility houses the largest green anaconda in the country, a female named Amber, which measures approximately 17 feet in length.
