Melaka government announces youth wage and economic initiatives

Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Utama Ab Rauf Yusoh has outlined several initiatives aimed at economic and social development during the Melaka Youth Carnival 2026. To support the younger generation, the state is evaluating a proposal to introduce a higher base salary of between RM2,500 and RM2,800, which will be submitted to the Federal Government for consideration.

Social empowerment programs are also a priority. The state is exploring ways to help young mothers re-enter the workforce, potentially utilizing the Melaka Inland Port as a hub for employment opportunities. Additionally, the 'Himpunan Ibu Muda' program was highlighted as a platform to provide knowledge and support for women facing domestic challenges.

On the economic front, a strategic partnership between MSN Agrofarm and the Malaysian Pineapple Industry Board (LPNM) aims to generate RM25.53 million in returns over five years through a pineapple development project. Furthermore, large-scale events like the Jom Heboh concert by Media Prima Berhad are being recognized for their ability to stimulate the local economy by driving spending in the food, retail, and hospitality sectors.
