Melania Rea series unveiled at Rome Film Festival

A new television series centered on the life of Melania Rea has been presented at the Rome Film Festival. Directed by Stefano Mordini and starring Maria Esposito and Daniele Rienzo, the production aims to explore the identity of the woman behind the 2011 femicide that significantly impacted Italian judicial history and public debate regarding domestic violence.

Rather than focusing solely on the crime, the series attempts to reconstruct Rea’s life, dreams, and aspirations prior to her death. Actress Maria Esposito stated her goal was to portray Rea as a person with a life and a family before the violence occurred. The production is supported by the Fondazione Una Nessuna Centomila and seeks to examine the social mechanisms that allow such violence to persist.
