Melania Trump adviser compares documentary box office to Tom Cruise film
Marc Beckman, a senior adviser to Melania Trump, has compared the theatrical performance of the Melania Trump documentary to Tom Cruise’s latest film, ‘Digger’. Beckman stated on social media that ‘Melania’ outperformed ‘Digger’ by approximately 67% on a per-theater basis, despite being released in significantly fewer locations.
According to the comparison, ‘Digger’ opened in 3,321 theaters with a domestic debut of approximately $8 million, resulting in a per-theater average of roughly $2,408. In contrast, the ‘Melania’ documentary opened in 1,778 theaters and earned approximately $7.1 million during its debut weekend, yielding a per-theater average of $4,027.
While the documentary achieved a high per-theater efficiency, it faced financial challenges. Amazon reportedly spent $75 million in total—$40 million for acquisition rights and $35 million for marketing—to release the film, which concluded its theatrical run with approximately $16.6 million worldwide.
