Melania Trump's status and benefits if Donald Trump dies in office

Under federal protocols, Melania Trump would be required to vacate the White House if President Donald Trump were to die while serving in office.

According to the Former Presidents Act, the widow of a former president is entitled to a monetary allowance of $20,000 per year, paid in monthly installments by the Secretary of the Treasury. To receive this allowance, the widow must waive rights to any other annuity or pension provided under other Congressional Acts. This financial protection applies whether the president passes away while in office or after his term has ended.
