Melanie Walters receives co-star support for Strictly Come Dancing debut

Welsh actress Melanie Walters has expressed that her ‘Gavin and Stacey’ co-stars have been ‘hugely supportive’ following her debut on the dance programme Strictly Come Dancing. Walters, 64, is best known for her role as Gwen West in the BBC comedy.

Partnered with professional dancer Aljaz Skorjanec, Walters described the pairing as a ‘dream come true.’ She noted that the experience of appearing on the show is ‘out of her comfort zone’ as she is typically a private person who avoids panel or quiz shows. Walters stated her intention for joining the series was to ‘tick that box’ and to finally learn how to dance properly through weekly masterclasses.

Regarding support from her former castmates, Walters highlighted receiving lovely messages, particularly from Joanna Page, who was ‘very excited’ for her participation. When asked if her ballroom routines would incorporate elements of her famous character, Walters replied, ‘I’ve got no idea.’
