Melbourne 98-year-old dies after three-hour paramedic wait
A 98-year-old woman living alone in Melbourne’s western suburbs fell around 4:30 am on a Friday. Her personal medical alarm triggered a Triple Zero call, which was passed to Ambulance Victoria. Dispatchers made multiple phone attempts over the next two hours, but the alarm number went unanswered.
Paramedics arrived at the home at about 7:30 am, roughly three hours after the alert, but could not gain entry. Fire Rescue Victoria staff later accessed the property, finding the woman dead inside. Victoria Police treated the death as non‑suspicious and will refer the case to a coroner.
Ambulance Victoria said it has contacted the family and is reviewing the incident. The case follows earlier reports of deaths linked to Triple Zero delays; the state budget previously allocated an extra $101.9 million to upgrade the telephone infrastructure for emergency calls.
