Multiple airlines have cancelled flights at Melbourne Airport, leaving many travelers, including football fans traveling after the grand final, stranded. Virgin Australia cancelled at least seven flights bound for Perth, with knock-on effects causing cancellations for Melbourne-bound flights from Perth as well. Other affected destinations include Brisbane, Sydney, Adelaide, Gold Coast, and Canberra.

Qantas also cancelled two scheduled services, while Jetstar reported some cancellations to various cities. Virgin Australia attributed the disruptions to low visibility and poor weather, which led air traffic control to limit arrivals into Melbourne the previous day. These delays have carried over into Sunday's operations, contributing to further cancellations and delays.
