Melbourne bus incident leaves young child trapped in closing doors
CCTV footage has captured a distressing incident in Melbourne’s inner southeast where a young child, believed to be between three and five years old, was trapped in a bus door and dragged along a gutter.
The incident occurred on June 5 involving a southbound route 246 Kinetic bus. After boarding in Richmond, the man and child attempted to disembark at the Waterloo Crescent and Barkly St stop in St Kilda. As they stepped off the stationary vehicle, the doors closed on the boy’s legs, trapping his lower body inside. The bus then began to move, dragging the child through the gutter for approximately 20 seconds before passengers alerted the driver to stop.
Matthew Campbell, managing director of Kinetic, issued an apology to the child, their family, and the witnesses. He stated that the company is reinforcing its safety protocols and emphasized that passenger safety is their highest priority.
