Melbourne City FC prepares for home opener against Sydney FC

Melbourne City FC will host Sydney FC at AAMI Park this Saturday for their first home fixture of the 2026/27 A-League Men’s season. Following a 1-1 draw against Melbourne Victory in the recent Melbourne Derby, Melbourne City currently sits eighth in the standings with one point from two matches.

Sydney FC enters the match in fourth place after a 2-1 victory over Adelaide United. Historically, Melbourne City holds a slight advantage in head-to-head meetings, leading 19-17 across 49 competitions and remaining unbeaten in their last six encounters with Sydney FC.

Melbourne City head coach Aurelio Vidmar has named a consistent squad for the match, featuring new international signings Emiliano Marcondes and Julio Cascante. The team looks to secure its first win of the campaign during the Halloween-themed home opener.
