Melbourne City prepares for AFC Women’s Champions League in Uzbekistan
Melbourne City is set to begin its third consecutive AFC Women’s Champions League campaign in Group C, located in Qarshi, Uzbekistan. Following a final appearance in its inaugural campaign and a semi-final run last season, the club aims to maintain its continental success.
The squad, led by Michael Matricciani, features several new recruits following a busy off-season. The team faces three challenging opponents in the group stage, including the reigning Chinese Women’s Super League champions.
City’s campaign begins on Sunday, 1 November, against Group C hosts PFC Nasaf at Markaziy Stadium. The two teams previously met in a dramatic quarter-final earlier this year, where Chinaza Uchendu scored a 90th-minute winner to secure a 2-1 victory for Melbourne City. This upcoming match marks a reversal of circumstances, as Nasaf will play with home-field advantage.
