Melbourne community commemorates Macedonian revolutionary struggle
The Macedonian Orthodox Community for Melbourne and Victoria held a commemorative event titled ‘Guardians of the Faith and the Macedonian Ideal’. The gathering honored the Day of the Macedonian Revolutionary Struggle and marked the 40th anniversary of the passing of Archbishop Angelarij.
The ceremony took place at the St. George and Holy Mother of God church in Epping, Melbourne, the oldest Macedonian Orthodox temple in the diaspora. The program included a panikhida service led by priest Kliment Stankovski, followed by a wreath-laying ceremony at the monument of Goce Delchev to honor national figures.
Following the religious services, a cultural program featuring a performance by the KUD ‘Svetlost’ was held. Dejan Zmejkovski, president of the church community, emphasized the role of Macedonian Orthodox communities in Australia in preserving national identity, language, and traditions for future generations.
