Melbourne Cricket Ground potentially to host 2028 T20 World Cup final

Australia and New Zealand are set to jointly host the 2028 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, which is scheduled to run from October 12 to November 12, 2028. While the International Cricket Council has not yet officially confirmed the full list of venues, reports suggest the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) is the leading candidate to host the tournament final.

The tournament is expected to feature 20 teams and approximately 55 matches across eight cities. Regarding the knockout stages, reports indicate that one semi-final may be held in New Zealand, while the other could take place at Optus Stadium in Perth. Specifically, if the Indian team qualifies for the semi-finals, Perth is a likely venue due to its time zone being closer to India's.

The MCG, which has a capacity of approximately 100,000 spectators, previously hosted the 2022 T20 World Cup final. Other major events held at the venue include the 1992 and 2015 ODI World Cup finals.
