Melbourne Demons defeat Fremantle Dockers in dramatic MCG upset

Melbourne's Demons rallied in the final quarter to beat ladder‑leading Fremantle Dockers by four points at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, overturning a 15‑point deficit. The match featured eight lead changes and a late surge by Harrison Petty, Harry Sharp and Bailey Laurie, each kicking three goals. Fremantle had led for 70 minutes but conceded four of the last five goals, ending their season with a third loss.

Despite the defeat, Fremantle coach Justin Longmuir said the Dockers have “no fears” about the upcoming finals, noting the team is still set to claim the minor premiership and will host home finals at Optus Stadium. The Dockers will next face Adelaide at home and Carlton away, while Melbourne looks to secure a week off before the finals.

Key performers included Melbourne captain Max Gawn and Fremantle ruck star Luke Jackson in the ruck duel, and Fremantle forwards Jye Amiss, Patrick Voss and Josh Treacy, who combined for 11 goals.
