Melbourne Football Club pauses Caulfield Racecourse facility plans
The Melbourne Football Club has decided to pause discussions regarding its proposed Training and Administration Facility (TAF) at the Caulfield Racecourse precinct until after the Victorian state election on November 28.
Club President Steven Smith informed members that while the Caulfield site has been the primary focus, the club is simultaneously identifying alternative potential sites. The pause follows a request from Environment Minister Jaclyn Symes for the club to submit a demonstration of the public interest in the project.
Negotiations had previously progressed toward a binding agreement with the Caulfield Racecourse Reserve Trust via a Memorandum of Understanding for the Neerim Stables site. However, the project has faced opposition from the Melbourne Racing Club, which expressed concerns regarding potential disruptions to racing activities.
