Melbourne launches high‑end valet parking trial on Collins Street

A 24‑hour valet parking trial begins on Collins Street in Melbourne, with two public pick‑up and drop‑off zones outside the Novotel Melbourne. The service, backed by the City of Melbourne, costs AU$80 per day and includes parking; users can summon their car by text message. It is modelled on similar schemes in Austin, Miami and the Dubai International Financial Centre and is intended to make shopping, dining and entertainment visits to the city’s premier boulevard easier.

Local business owners have welcomed the scheme. James Temelli, owner of Temelli Jewellery, said the valet would help high‑end jewellery clients avoid long parking searches. Collins Street Precinct Group president Luke Harris echoed the sentiment, noting the service mirrors offerings on other world‑class boulevards. Cycling advocate Nik Dow warned the trial could increase traffic congestion.
