Melbourne man dies after alleged carjacking in driveway
A 68-year-old man has died following an alleged carjacking in Heidelberg West, Melbourne. The incident occurred on the evening of August 1 when the man, identified by neighbors as George, arrived at his Blackwood Parade home and left his Honda CR-V in the driveway.
Police allege that a 51-year-old woman entered the running vehicle, leading to a confrontation with the man and another woman. During the altercation, the vehicle allegedly reversed at speed, striking and running over the man before fleeing the scene. Despite receiving emergency medical treatment and undergoing surgery, the man died on Monday night.
On August 7, detectives arrested the 51-year-old woman during the execution of a search warrant. She has been charged with theft of a motor vehicle, dangerous driving causing serious injury, failing to stop, failing to render assistance, and unlicensed driving. Investigators are currently considering whether to upgrade these charges following the victim's death. The accused is scheduled to appear in the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court in November.
