Melbourne memorial march honors murdered Indigenous woman Jayda Allen Bonner
Hundreds of people gathered in Melbourne for a smoking ceremony and march to honor 21-year-old Indigenous woman Jayda Allen Bonner. The memorial took place in Carlton, where a growing collection of flowers and messages was established near the site where Bonner was found dead on October 10.
Bonner was allegedly murdered by her partner, a 31-year-old man who turned himself into police and has been charged with murder. Family members noted that Bonner had allegedly been kept isolated in her apartment for months prior to her death.
The procession moved from Cardigan Street through Lygon Street and the State Library, ending at Parliament House. During the march, participants chanted against domestic violence, calling for systemic change and justice for Bonner.
