Melbourne police arrest man after Irish woman found dead
Police in Melbourne, Australia, have arrested a 45-year-old man following the death of an Irish woman in the suburb of Ferntree Gully. Emergency services were called to a residence on Ferntree Gully Road at approximately 10:00 am on August 21, where they discovered the woman suffering from serious injuries.
The deceased has been identified as 39-year-old Annmarie O’Reilly, a mother of three originally from Clonmel, County Tipperary. Despite efforts by paramedics to revive her, she was declared deceased at the scene.
A man, reportedly originally from County Waterford, was arrested near the property. Witnesses noted the individual was wearing a hazmat suit at the time of his arrest. Homicide Squad detectives and forensic teams have established a crime scene at the residential property to conduct technical examinations.
Victoria Police stated that there is “no active threat” to the community. Investigators believe the two parties were known to each other, though the specific nature of their relationship and the cause of the injuries have not yet been disclosed.
