Melbourne Renegades appoint Gavan Twining as WBBL head coach
The Melbourne Renegades have appointed Gavan Twining as the head coach for the upcoming Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) season. Twining, who currently serves as an assistant coach for the Australian women’s national team, succeeds Simon Helmot. Helmot departed the club in April following the team’s WBBL 10 championship win to pursue coaching opportunities with overseas franchises.
Twining brings significant experience to the role, having served as Australia’s fielding mentor since late 2024 and contributing to the national team’s ICC Women’s T20 World Cup title campaign. He is expected to join the squad following Australia’s series against Bangladesh and New Zealand, before returning to his Cricket Australia duties at the conclusion of the WBBL season.
During the upcoming Spring Challenge, Renegades High Performance Manager and former Australian cricketer Clint McKay will lead the team. Melbourne Renegades General Manager Max Abbott noted that Twining was selected to build upon the club’s existing success and leadership.
