Melbourne Rose Mikaela Whitty honors her Donegal roots

Mikaela Whitty, representing Melbourne as the Melbourne Rose, has highlighted her deep connections to Inishowen, Donegal, during her appearance at the Rose of Tralee festival.

Whitty, a 28-year-old Microbiology PhD student at La Trobe University, was born in Melbourne to Irish parents and has lived between Australia and Ireland. She credited her grandmother, Ruby Grant, for encouraging her to enter the competition, noting that Whitty submitted her application just hours before the deadline.

During her appearance on the Rose of Tralee stage, Whitty expressed her pride in her Donegal roots and gave a special mention to her grandmothers. Her family, including her parents and siblings, traveled to support her during the festival.
