Melbourne Storm sells majority stake to EQT
The Melbourne Storm has announced that Swedish investment firm EQT will become a majority shareholder in the NRL club. The deal, which is subject to approval from the Australian Rugby League Commission (ARLC), reportedly involves a $150 million acquisition of a controlling stake.
As part of the transition, EQT will join the club’s Board of Directors. Current chairman Matt Tripp will remain in his position to ensure leadership continuity. Other key personnel, including chief executive Justin Rodski, head coach Craig Bellamy, and football director Frank Ponissi, are set to continue in their existing roles.
EQT, which manages approximately $400 billion in assets globally, aims to leverage its international sporting expertise to drive the club’s commercial growth. The firm holds existing interests in the sports landscape, including ownership of IMG Academy and partnerships with the ATP.
