Melbourne United players praise NBL growth and talent

Melbourne United players Cole Anthony and Luke Travers have expressed high regard for the National Basketball League (NBL) following the start of the NBL27 season. Anthony, who recently scored 40 points against Cairns, noted the league is on an upward trajectory and praised the high level of talent and the electric atmosphere of the fans.

Statistical growth for the league has been noted, with free-to-air audiences increasing by 96 per cent and attendance rising by 14 per cent during the opening period of the season. Anthony compared the fan engagement in the NBL to his experience in the NBA, stating that while arenas may differ in size, the passion of the supporters is comparable.

Fellow teammate Luke Travers, a former Cleveland Cavalier, is using his time in the NBL to aim for an MVP title and a return to the NBA. Travers is currently averaging 10.3 points, 7.0 rebounds, and 4.0 assists per game as Melbourne United seeks to improve from a 1-3 start to the season.
